Components for the Transponder Technology (RFID)

For EM-4102 (125 kHz) compatible transponder (RFID-Tag)

Transponder-Reader (COL-10) with durable external antenna (70 x 51 mm and only 1,6mm thick) together with a transponder integrated at a key tag.

RS232 Interface INTER-10 for up to 99 Transponder-Reader COL-10.

Features of the Components for the Transponder Technology (RFID)

1. General Information

The Transponder-Reader COL-10 contains a rugged external printed board antenna and is suitable for the reading of 125 kHz transponder in accordance to EM-4102.

In accordance to the mode of application is it possible that the once laser programmed serial number e.g. red from a glas pipe - or disc-transponder or from a transponder integrated within a key tag or from a ISO chipcard.

The programmed serial number of the transponder will be solitary recorded by the Transponder-Reader COL-10 and transmitted via an RS485 interface.

1.1. Sample Connection 1 (transponder system with arbitrary evaluation unit):

Up to 99 Reader COL-10 can transmit the transponder data via the RS485 interface to any available evaluation unit.

1.2. Sample Connection 2 (transponder system with PC-connection (COM)):

If you want to transmit the transponder information to a PC-program you can implement the Interface INTER-10 which will transmit the data via the serial COM-Port (RS232) to the PC.

1.3. Sample Connection 3 (transponder system with PC-connection (USB)):

If the transponder information will be transmitted via the Interface TD-88 is it possible to transmit the data via the High Speed Interface HSI-88-USB and via the USB-interface to the PC. Each Interface TD-88 is able to process the transponder data of max. 31 Transponder-Reader COL-10. Onto each HSI-88-USB can be up to 31 Interfaces TD-88 connected.

2. Operation Area

  • access control
  • time control
  • product tracing
  • quality assurance
  • access right
  • object identification

3. Transponder-Reader COL-10 for EM-4102 (125 kHz) compatible Transponder (RFID-Tag)

The Transponder-Reader COL-10 is not anymore available.

The Transponder-Reader COL-10 contains a rugget external printed board antenna.

In accordance to the respective application is the the reading of the programmed serial number possible from a glas-pipe- or disc-transponder or from a transponder integrated at a key-tag (shown at the picture) or from an ISO chip-card.

4. Plug-In Power Supply SNG-10

sng-10_01.jpg

For a reading distance of up to 10cm (depending to the type of transponder) shall get the Transponder-Reader COL-10 a supply of direct current of 13,6 Volt from the Plug-In Power Supply SNG-10.

The black cable at the output of the plug-in power supply device is of negative polarity and has to be connected to the input “brown” of the of the supply clamp KL2 of the Reader COL-10. The black cable with a white mark is of positive polarity and has to be connected to the input “yellow” of the Readers COL-10.

Each plug-in power supply device SNG-10 can supply up to 10 Transponder Reader COL-10.

5. RS232 Interface INTER-10 for up to 99 Transponder-Reader COL-10

Via the Interface INTER-10 is it possible to transmit the data of up to 99 Transponder Reader COL-10 via the serial interface RS232 e.g. to a PC.

The interface INTER-10 is connected to the Transponder Reader COL-10 with a 2-wire RS485 interface.

6. Sample application for the object identification: Transponder Technology for the Train Identification within model railway layouts

With the train identification via transponder is it possible to identify automatically every train.

The trains have to be equipped with transponders and on strategic convenient identification locations (e.g. location where new trains will be appointed) a transponder reader COL-10 has to be assembled. The reader COL-10 has a flat external antenna of 1,6mm thickness. These has to be assembled near the track. The maximum reading distance is 40mm, provided that the Reader COL-10 will get a ac voltage supply of 14 to 16 Volt from a model railway transformer. The reading distance will increase by about 50% if the transponder reader will get the supply of 13,5 Volt DC from the plug-in power supply device SNG-10.

The unique laser programmed serial number of the transponder assembled to the train will be red by the Reader-Unit COL-10 and transmitted via the interfaces INTER-10 or TD-88 to the PC-model railway software. Within the PC-software are the transponder data stored together with train name or train number and will be indicated at the PC-screen within the monitor command panel.

Whenever a train has been indicated by the train identification of the model railway software the model railway software will realize the further train-tracing and controling via the standard feedback modules such as RM-88-N, RM-88-N-O, RM-DEC-88, RM-DEC-88-O or RM-GB-8-N for the s88-feedback bus or RS-16-O respectively RS-8 for the RS-feedback bus.

The transponder data for the train identification will be transmitted from the transponder reader COL-10 e.g. via the interface TD-88 and over the s88-feedback bus and the HSI-88(-USB) to the PC respectively to the model railway software. The interface TD-88 can be integrated within one of the three bus lines between the feedback modules as required.

The transponder data for the train identification will be transmitted from the transponder reader COL-10 e.g. via the interface INTER-10 over the serial COM-interface to the PC respectively to the model railway software.

Samples for the assembly of antennas and transponders:

trans-2_01.jpg

The reader antenna has been assembled at a tunnel section. The disc-transponder (TRANS-2) has to be simply glued onto every loc body. This is possible on loc bodies made of plastic. The antenna will “float” about 2 cm above the locs.

A glass-tube transponder (TRANS-1) has been attached between the buffers of a loc. The transponder has been attached to a toothpick which lays accross the buffers to assure that the metal buffers will not reduce the reading sensitivity. The transponder and the support can be visually concealed by use of a little black paint. The antenna has been assembled at a distance of 2,5cm from the HO-track center for example at the entrance of a tunnel.

Glass-tube transponders (TRANS-1) have to be attached below the goods of a freight waggon or inside a passenger waggon. The distance of the antenna from the center of the HO-track shall be 2,5cm (e.g. at tunnel entrances).

Disc-transponders (TRANS-2) have to be attached at the center of freight or passenger cars or glued onto the inside of one side wall. The distance of the antenna from the center of the HO-track shall be 2,5cm (e.g. at tunnel entrances).
